My initial encounter with generative AI was met with skepticism, primarily due to the prevailing doubts about potential risks associated with it. Balancing a demanding job as a Planning and Project Control Manager at a multidisciplinary engineering firm, along with other priorities, left me with limited time to explore this new technology. The unfamiliar terminology associated with AI only added to the uncertainty and fear I felt. It's daunting to embark on something when you're unsure of where it might lead.

However, as I dove into my first experience with generative AI, I started to see its potential. I realized that, despite my initial reservations, this technology could be an asset. It had the potential to become a swift and efficient assistant for daily tasks, a prospect that intrigued me. But, like any new tool, it required time and effort to master. Learning to interact with it in detail became a necessary endeavor.

One of the most challenging aspects of embracing generative AI was breaking away from my accustomed ways of doing things. The comfort of established routines can be hard to leave behind.  I recognized that this was a path worth exploring, learning, and, most importantly, harnessing for improved results in my regular management tasks. Generative AI had the potential to enhance and streamline our project control processes, leading to better outcomes.

In a professional context, the first encounter with generative AI presented a certain paradox. The skepticism and fear of the unknown clashed with the realization of its practical utility. The initial reluctance gradually transformed into curiosity and determination. As someone in a managerial role, it's crucial to stay open to emerging technologies that can optimize project management and decision-making processes. Generative AI, with its ability to generate content and insights, had the potential to be a valuable tool for me and my team.

As I reflect on my first experience with generative AI, it's clear that the journey has just begun. It's a path that requires ongoing learning, adaptation, and exploration. Over time, I hope to fully integrate this technology into my daily work, using it to develop better strategies, make more informed decisions, and enhance the efficiency of project control. The initial doubts have given way to a sense of opportunity, and I'm excited to see where this journey with generative AI will take me in the world of project management and engineering.
